I'm no longer active in developing SANE drivers. Please send any comments or support requests to the sane-devel mailing list.

Introduction

This page covers the SANE MA-1509 ("ma1509") backend which supports the Mustek BearPaw 1200F USB scanner. Support is included in sane-backends version 1.0.12 and later.

Status

Color, gray, and lineart scanning works up to 600 dpi. Calibration isn't perfect, sometimes vertical stripes occur. Transparency adapter and automatic document feeder aren't supported.

With current Linux and *BSD kernels, the backend works with libusb. I haven't gotten reports from other operating systems until now.

Documentation

There is not much much documentation but the manpage (sane-ma1509).

Prerequisites

You'll need a kernel scanner driver that detects your scanner or libusb 0.1.6 or newer.

Download

Use sane-backends 1.0.12 or later from the SANE download page or your distribution.

Building

As usual, see README.

Configuration

Should work out-of-the-box. Make sure, that "ma1509" is in dll.conf. If you are using an old kernel (Linux < 2.4.8), you may need to edit ma1509.conf and add a line "/dev/usb/scanner0".

Trouble-shooting

First make sure that your scanner is deteced by sane-find-scanner. If this doesn't work, check permissions and have a look at man sane-usb.

If the scanner is detected by sane-find-scanner but not by scanimage -L, enable debugging: SANE_DEBUG_MA1509=255 scanimage -L. If you can't find out what's wrong, send the debug log to me.
